Taking the Third Road: A Day at the “Run for Peace and Solidarity in Mindanao”

I wasn’t able to attend the entire Run for Peace and Solidarity in Mindanao and its grueling 452 kilometers from Zamboanga to Cotabato City. However, I did get a chance to attend the final day of the run from Parang to Notre Dame University. Looking back on the day, it was a little bit surreal, as if in one of those dreams where everything goes better than you had ever thought it would.

Heavy rains fail to dampen run for peace

Not even a heavy downpour could douse the enthusiasm of the Municipality of Buug in Zamboanga Sibugay yesterday when they welcomed around 50 runners and their support crew in the ongoing Run for Peace and Solidarity for Mindanao that is on its 4th day today. This reflected how the Buug community as well as the other municipalities along the route taken by the runners went all out in embracing the runners coalesced under the advocacy group Bisayang Dako Alang Sa Kalinaw (BISDAK, Genuine Visayans for Peace).

Peace Run Embraced in Muslim areas

Picong, Lanao del Sur — Maranao residents came out in droves to welcome the 48-person contingent of the Run for Peace and Solidarity for Mindanao as the epic run from Zamboanga to Cotabato passed through municipalities dotting the coast of Zamboanga del Sur and Lanao del Sur on its 7th and 8th days.

Determination Overrides Challenges

Barely an hour after the group started the day’s ride, Weesam, one of the bikers lined at the rear, went out of balance and briefly interrupted the ride. Weesam obtained a few scratches but chose to pedal on.
